[Please contact me if you have a Question, Comment, Correction or Addition]

ALEXANDER FINLAYSON (ANGUS ) was born Abt. 1826 in North Carolina, Cumberland Co, and died Sep 28, 1882 in South Carolina, Chesterfield Co. He married EMILINE CAMPBELL Feb 22, 1872 in South Carolina, Chesterfield Co, daughter of DUNCAN CAMPBELL and MARTHA ROLLINS. She was born Nov 24, 1848 in South Carolina, Chesterfield Co, and died Sep 08, 1929 in North Carolina, Ashville.

Family story of how Alexander Finlayson met Emiline Campbell as related by Gertrude Rowland:
Alexander was a Tailor. After the war was over , he went through the country to make suits for men. At that time, the cloth was woven by families. Grandfather (Duncan) Campbell's home seemed to be a popular place for guests. So Alexander was staying there and would go out in the community to make the suits.

Obituary for EMILINE CAMPBELL:
On last Sunday morning , Sept. 8, 1929 when the golden purple dawn was breaking and all out of door nature seemed to be rejoicing, the messanger of peace said unto Mrs. Emiline Finlayson, "Come unto me, ye blessed of my Father," and that gentle soul in answer to its final summons winged its flight to the heavenly shores of a perfect day, where old age tears and sorrows are unknown. It seemed a fitting close for this beautiful and loving christian life that the call should come for her to enter into that eternal paradise in the glories of a beautiful and peaceful sabbath morning.
Mrs. Finlayson passed away at the home of her son, Mr Malcom Finlayson at Asheville, N.C., where she had gone on a visit, having gone this far with another son, Mr. William Finlayson of Monticello, Arkansas, who was on his way back home after spending a month out here with his mother and other relatives. She was a very active woman and having been ill only a few days, her passing was a great shock to a host of friends and relatives. Her body was brought from asheville Sunday to the home of her daughter, Mrs J.C. Munn, near Jefferson where it was kept until the burial Teusday.
She was born November 24, 1848, therefore was almost 81 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Campbell of Angelus community.
In the spring of 1871 when the reconstruction days following the War between the States were so dark and appalling, Mr. Alexander Finlayson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Angus Finlayson, led this young lady to the alter in the upper Macedonia church, in the community in which she had spent her girlhood, and were there united in marraige. However, they were not permitted to spend many happy days together as Mr. Finlayson departed this life on September 28, 1882 and Mrs. Finlayson was left with five small children to rear, which she did well. A greater part of her married life was spent in Darlington Co. Her husband served in the War between the States enlisting August 20, 1863 as a private in Company B, 56th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry at Fayetteville, N.C. He was captured at Hatchers Run April 2, 1865 and paroled June 27, 1865.
Mrs. Finlayson being quite a young lady during the war could relate interesting and stirring events of this period and the period following. One event which was so indelibly impressed on her mind was when early one morning to their utter horror and dismay a group of yankee's dashed up into their yard and proceeded to take everything they had to eat and that which they could not take with them was destroyed.
In early life Mrs. Finlayson united with the Rocky Creek Presbyterian church. Her long life of unselfish service was a living exemplification of Christianity, beautiful to see. The death of this good woman is an irreparable loss to her freinds and loved ones, while it is heaven's gain. She was always so considerate of others, and through her patience, kindness and faithfulness she has won an undying place in the hearts of all who knew her.
Mrs. Finlayson is survived by the following children:
Mrs. J C Munn of Jefferson
Mr John Finlayson of Charolette N.C.
Mr. Malcom Finlayson of Asheville
Mr. William Finlayson of Monticello, Arkansas
One son Mr. Angus Finlayson, Died about eleven years ago.
Also one sister, Mrs William Hathcock, Angelus, and two brothers, Mr. James Campbell, Charlette, and Mr William Campbell, Wauchuda, Florida thirty-two grand children and thirty-six great grandchildren survive her.
The funeral services were conducted Teusday morning in the Rocky Creek Presbyterian church by her pastor, the Rev. Smith of Jefferson and ably assisted by the Rev. G.A. Gunter, Baptist pastor of Jefferson and her former pastor Rev. Johnston of Charlotte, who paid beautiful and touching tributes to the deceased.
Her Grandsons acted as pallbearers and her grandchildren had charge of the many and floral offerings. She was tenderly laid to rest in the Rocky Creek Cemetery beneath a mound of lovely flowers in the presence of a large concorse of freinds and relatives.
The profoundest sympathy goes to the bereaved family and loved ones, and we can only point them to Him who doeth all things well.
"There are no clouds there to mmar her sky, All the cares have been cast away; She has gone to her father in Heaven, Tis the dawn of a perfect day."
